Empower children of incarcerated parents by providing scholarships, funding for extracurricular activities, and mentorship opportunities. We believe that education, creativity, and community engagement are key to breaking cycles of incarceration and building brighter futures. Through financial support and advocacy, we strive to ensure every child has access to opportunities that nurture their talents, boost their confidence, and help them reach their full potential.
Anne Sumner knows the challenges faced by children with incarcerated parents—her own children experienced them. Struggling with addiction for years, she served six prison sentences while her kids entered the foster care system. A life-changing car accident forced her to reevaluate her path, leading to recovery and a fresh start.
Now, with over six years of sobriety, she has dedicated her life to breaking cycles of trauma. Through Fighting for Family Freedom, she provides support, stability, and hope to children affected by parental incarceration, proving that second chances can create lasting change.
We’re proud to dedicate our scholarship program to the memory of Ernesto Garcia—whose leadership and guidance were vital in the early days of our nonprofit. As our first vice president, he helped lay the foundation for the work we do today.
A U.S. Air Force veteran and retired civil servant from Kirtland AFB’s Nuclear Weapons Center, Ernesto also earned his master’s at 52 from Ashford University. He was a true gentleman who helped raise a family member now proudly serving in the Air Force.
The Ernesto Garcia Memorial Scholarship honors his legacy of service, kindness, and dedication to education. His impact lives on through every life we touch.
